Periyar
- College of the North Atlantic (Canada) Project
1995 - 1998

Periyar - College of the North Atlantic (Canada) Project was launched in 1995
through a Memorandum of Understanding between the College of the North Atlantic,
Canada and Periyar Centenary Polytechnic College, India. The project was a
Canadian College Partnership Program (CCPP) funded by the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA) and executed through the Association of Canadian
Community Colleges (ACCC).
Impact
of the Project
The Three year partnership programme optimised
the benefits of the Canada India Institutional Co-operation Project (CIICP) and
further strengthened the Polytechnic to meet the human resources development
requirements.
-
The linkage developed a credible, proactive,
industry and community responsive Continuing Education model which demonstrated
its ability to facilitate the development of successful industry linkages and to
be a substantial revenue generating arm of the Polytechnic.
-
The focus of the project was the development of
Division of Continuing Education and Contract Training. This has led to enhanced
skills and technologies in the labour pool, greater relevance of training to
industry requirements, more far reaching community based offerings that benefits
women, greater collaboration between government and education, industry and
