GOVERNMENT'S BEST POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE AWARD |

The Periyar Centenary Polytechnic College at Vallam near Thanjavur has bagged
the Best Polytechnic College Award which has been institutioned for the first time
by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The award is given in appreciation of the academic
excellence of the polytechnic colleges.
Among the 339 polytechnic colleges in the Sate, Periyar Centenary Polytechnic College
is the only institution selected for the award, according to a press release from
the institution.
The institution had previously been awarded the Government of Canada's
'CIDA Award of Excellence'. The Polytechnic college has achieved another milestone
by bagging the prestigious Tamil Nadu Government's Best College Award for 2006-07
for its manifold curricular, co-curricular activities resulting in overall development
of the institution. So far the college has received 29 prestigious awards.
V.Sundarajulu, Correspondent, Dr.R.Malliga, Principal, Dr.H.Parveen,
Director and Dr.A.Jeevanandam, Dean of the Polytechnic College, received the award
from the Chief Minister at Chennai at a function held at Anna University Campus
on September1.

ISTE is a professional
society of engineering educators and educational administrators of India . Its objectives
are to advance the cause of education, the process of teaching, learning, research,
extension service and public relations. ISTE students chapter has been organized
in our institution. The college has been awarded with the Best Chapter Award, the
Best Chairman Award, the Best Teacher Award, the Best Staff Advisor Award for its
outstanding performance and overall leadership. The chapter plays a vital role in
developing skills of the staff, producing publications and conducting seminars and
workshops and increased short-term training programmes. |

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

National Service Scheme aims to promote
social consciousness and a sense of responsibility, discipline and dignity of
labour among students. Special attention is paid on character building to educate
the rural masses on health care, family planning, better environment and to eradicate
illiteracy. Eye camps, blood donation camps are regularly conducted every year.
